Day 1 Exploration
Arrival (See Getting There for more details) - Arrival (See Getting There for more details): You'll be collected from the airport. Accommodation before the tour starts can be arranged for an extra cost.
Day 2 Exploration
Day 1 - Kigali - Volcanoes National Park (2h30 Drive): You'll arrive in the morning at Kigali International Airport and have a warm welcome from our representative outside the customs and immigration hall. You will have a briefing, then start your guided city tour. Your first stop is the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a moving tribute to the victims of the 1994 genocide. Through emotional exhibits and personal stories, the memorial provides insight into Rwanda’s history and resilience. Next, you'll visit the Inema Arts Center, a vibrant space showcasing contemporary art by Rwanda’s emerging creatives. Afterward, you'll enjoy a flavorful lunch at Hotel des Mille Collins (also known as Hotel Rwanda). In the afternoon, you'll set off on a 2.5-hour scenic drive to Musanze, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park. En route, you’ll pass terraced fields, lush plantations, and charming villages. Upon arrival at your lodge, you'll settle in and enjoy dinner in a tranquil setting, perfect for preparing for tomorrow’s adventure.
Day 3 Exploration
Day 2 - Volcanoes National Park: You'll wake up before dawn. After breakfast, you'll drive about 15–20 minutes to Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a trek briefing that starts at 7:00 am. You'll begin a 2–6 hour trek into the dense bamboo forests, tracking one of the habituated gorilla families. Your guide will interpret signs like broken branches and fresh prints as you draw closer. Then, there they are—majestic mountain gorillas, their dark fur glistening in the forest light. For one unforgettable hour, watch them forage, interact, and play, just a few meters away. You'll return to the lodge by midday for a refreshing lunch (Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel). In the afternoon, you'll visit the Gorilla Guardians Village (about a 10-minute drive) for an engaging cultural experience. Here, ex-poachers now turned guardians will welcome you with traditional music, dance, and storytelling. Try your hand at local crafts and cooking in a hands-on celebration of Rwandan heritage. You'll have dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4 Exploration
Day 3 - Volcanoes National Park - Kigali (2h30 Drive): After an early breakfast, you'll return to the park headquarters (15–20 minutes’ drive) for a briefing before embarking on a 2-hour trek to find golden monkeys. Their vibrant fur and acrobatic antics offer a delightful contrast to the gorilla experience. Observe them feeding, leaping between bamboo shoots, and chattering excitedly through the trees. After this lively encounter, you'll return to the lodge by late morning for early lunch and time to freshen up. You'll check out and then visit the scenic twin lakes, Burera and Ruhondo. You'll drive back to Kigali. Along the way, you will enjoy final glimpses of Rwanda’s pastoral beauty and terraced hills.
